The show, which revolves around a fictional prank caller known as the Fonejacker (played by Kayvan Novak), is centered on the protagonist’s telephonic exploitations of the public… all the while impersonating different characters. The show is accompanied by on-screen animations, consisting of pictures of people with their mouths moving, in a similar style to Monty Python animations. Undercover filming is used in certain scenes where the Fonejacker is shown on the street, calling a nearby company. The Fonejacker always uses sunglasses and wears a red and white balaclava - except in the Pilot, where it was black.
While Kayvan Novak’s figure is kept anonymous by the Fonejacker costume, he can be clearly seen during Mr. Doovdé’s calls, advertising DVD players and dfs. as a model.
Each episode begins with the definition of the word "fonejack", being to seize control of a telephone conversation by farce esp - to divert it from reason and logic, usually followed by the Fonejacker calling Directory Enquires as Mr Doovdé on an American payphone. However, Mr. Doovdé did not headline the fifth episode; Mike did.
The last episode of series 1 revealed that two callers had previously been fonejacked by Terry, implying that phonejacker does not tell the victim the call was a joke. Those two victims hadn’t appeared in previous episodes, so not all Fonejacks are broadcast.
Channel 4 runs a show called Comedy Lab centered on the new comic talent; this is where Fonejacker’s pilot first aired, in 2006. Since it became so popular, the show was given a six-part series in October 2006, which would get broadcast on E4 starting April 2007. It was also given a Christmas special that was broadcast on December 29, 2006 entitled Fonejacker's Christmas Message which was a five-minute short version of the pilot. Fonejacker: Coming April 2007 - Don't Pick Up The Phone; this message came as a warning, in the end of the show.
Starting in March, both Channel 4 and E4 started to air a teaser trailer for the upcoming series; the 30 second advert consisted of clips of the pilot. For reasons that were never disclosed, the show was put on hold, and broadcast didn’t begin in April, It would supposedly start on June 7 2007, but such rumors were false. After this, rumours spread that the show would start on June 7 2007, which was also false. For some time, a feeling of hopelessness arised among fans; just when new trailers got aired, in June. A television within the clips was shown broadcasting news reports: "New sightings of the Fonejacker", even as he proceeded to make various calls from within his own flat. The new promotion was topped off with the catchphrase Don't Pick Up The Phone, along with a URL address for the same E4 website. There was a newer alternative advert, just a few days after that.
Hours before the first episode of the show was scheduled for airing, the Fonejacker called Big Brother’s Little Brother as Terry Tibbs, chatting about a Mazerati with a girl called Stephanie. Much to the surprise of presenter Dermot O’Leary, it was obvious the Fonejacker called unannounced. That night, an advertisement stating “Fonejacker Tonight 10-30” was placed below E4’s on-screen logo, as part of the show’s aggressive advertising.
The fan site has many soundboards, im quite particular to fonejacker sound board that features terry tibbs, this one always makes me giggle.
Heavy profanity was used for the first time in Fonejacker during the show’s premiere, on July 5, 2007 at 10-30 pm.The second series of the show was broadcast starting September 9 2008. It’s still unknown if there will be a third series.
